Domestic politics in Portugal

Something that is a bit strange today on portuguese, iberian and other countries in Europe is that in the portuguese politic, there is now a strong regionalist tendency, that the recent impowered right wing leader, Luís Montenegro  personify. He is linked to the north of Portugal, particulary to Espinho, that is a small town near Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south bank of Douro.
If it was not his way of making through his, in a way, codified and apparently meanless political message, that in my opinion could be compared in a flatered way with the round speech of Rogério Alves, but to go not any further and to emphasize the aim of this text, I would just call the link between his speech, his message and his political purposes, a product and a consequence of portuguese domestic politics linked to the Oporto area, that can be found on his peculiar round, codified, regionalist speech in spite of his oposition to the 2024, government's regionalization referendum.
Usually It is not easy to be an opposition leader, in fact, policies in countries today, are linked mainly to its major cities. In my opinion Montenegro is a regionalist, in the sense he is representing mainly the Oporto area south to Coimbra.
Politic is and should be linked to everydaylife of its inhabitants. In a way Montenegro was both a member of parliament and the CEO of Radio Popular, that shows distance to ordinary people, perhaps he is just used to act to television cameras.
I am not making now any comment to António Costa's government, that seems a bit wear out due to what in my opinion is his long term policy, that somehow at some point can be turned against him and the Socialist party, that has in his personal counterparts a part of its future.
What I do want to reveal now is the falacy of both Montenegro and Costa in what concerns regionalization, each expressing the opposite they represent. Costa is now a national politician a bit wear out now but with a political future. Montenegro seeks to find his audience with a distant aproach to ordinary people and to ordinary life in spite of being side by side with them through television screens.
Along with the choices linked to political policies there are choices linked to politics and politicians to be taken. Is Rio on the run to Oporto 2025? What about Vila Nova de Gaia, Sintra and Cascais, that are facing a 12 year long mandate end.
It seems to me that public townhall mandates should be in future limited to 2 mandates, 2 mandates of 4 years each, as it happens in a tacit way in Lisbon, in order to open decive political locations to new points a view, namely linked to age and culture.
I am not intending to stand or not to stand for any of the persons I mentioned or to exclude them, or to exclude anyothers that I didn't mentioned.
In fact politic in a wide sense is linked to local, national and international levels. Portugal is on my opinion divided in 2 regions now linked to Oporto and Lisbon. At the scale of Europe and european countries even like the U.K. that are now not members of E.U., the size of Wales or Andaluzia, Lombardia, Bordeaux, Baviera, are similar to entire countries like Portugal, Belgium or Austria that can act in their regional or international sphere.
It makes sense for me as a portuguese to keep my country linked to an international european economic and cultural platform, hub or organization to perform world peace and economic and cultural prosperity in an extended sense across Europe and worlwide.
